Xbox 360 Arcade Review : Console and Games

The Console :

Last December 2009 , I decided to buy the xbox 360 ” arcade version ” console. Having to choose between two versions, elite or arcade, i chose the cheaper one since it’s the only available version here in our city.

The arcade version is much cheaper, and the storage is only limited to 256 mb , but since I will mainly use it for offline play, the drive space won’t matter, i can always buy a hd add on if i really needed to.

I also bought a rechargable battery that can be charged with the console’ or pc usb slot , battery drains quickly if you play a lot. I suggest you charge it in the pc , some people say if the xbox360 is overheated it would cause the red ring of death which makes your xbox useless , so its best to take good care of it and play moderately.

Games I have played so far  : ( I don’t use it for online play so I have no clue how it feels like on xboxlive or games on online mode )

Borderlands – This is the first game that I ever played on the console. It’s a mix of FPS shooter + RPG style of gameplay. You can choose between four characters, a soldier, sniper, berserker and lastly the  siren. I chose the soldier because his special ability deploys a gun turret which is pretty awesome. The graphics are okay , the characters look like they’re drawn in the comics, just think of this  game as madmax + meets a bit of halo.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2 - I played the marvel ultimate alliance 1 on the ps2 a few years back , and I can notice a huge improvement in the graphics, gameplay and the story. There’s a big list of marvel superheroes you can choose from , from spiderman, wolverine, iroman , captain america and so on. The game  takes place in the civil war storyline in the comics, where the superheroes are torn apart in two factions, one led by captain america and the other by ironman. The best part of the game is the fusion power, where two superheroes work together to form a combo special , think of ironman using his repulsor beams and wolverine’s claws deflecting it in all directions. If you love the marvel superheroes, then this game is a must buy.

Assasins Creed 2 - This one of the best looking games I have ever played , a must buy for your xbox 360. What I like about this game is that it immerses you deeply into the storyline ,  if you haven’t played the first game dont worry since it shows you some flashbacks on the first one. I liked the fact that you have your own villa, put shops and buildings ( but I was hoping where you design or arrange them just like in the simcity games , or bandits would attack the villa and your own guards would protect the place , that would be neat ).  The assassin moves are nice too, especially when you kill two enemies at the same time using a dual hidden blade weapon. You got to buy this one, and assassins creed 3 when it comes out =)

Modern Warfare 2 – With over 1 billion +  dollars in sales since it’s release last year, this game has joined the ranks of halo 3 , grand theft auto 4 , etc. It’s the best looking FPS shooter in the xbox 360 , with over a variety of modern weapons to choose from. The graphics are so realistic , I wished i bought an HD flatscreen tv to enjoy its pure awesomeness. The story or solo campaign mode is superb, as well as controversial ( especially the airport scene ) and sad to say the story is short , only a few hours to complete the game. There’s also the special ops mode, where you can play offline or  online, system link or splitscreen , where you have to play different missions to go on to a higher level ( I wished the creators just placed some of those missions on the story mode to make it longer .) Last would be multiplayer mode , if you use your xbox online , Im sure you’d be hook up playing online =)
